I know, I know another getaway in the Overberg in the Western Cape post from me! It is definitely my goal to explore more places and provinces in South Africa other than the Overberg, now that I am living back home. My ultimate goal being able to finally go on safari in the infamous Kruger.
The Overberg in the Western Cape has long been a popular route for a holiday or a short escape with locals. I know, I’ve been driving through these routes my whole life! The routes taken to the various little towns and holiday spots are scenic and aren’t more than 3 hours out of the city of Cape Town. I recently took a trip for a few days to the Overberg during spring, and decided to put together a list of 5 laid back stops you can check out for fun.
Last week, I was lucky enough to be part of the UNESCO World Heritage Road Trip to the Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve. It was a fun collaboration with the popular @instagram_sa, where 4 bloggers from various creative backgrounds came together and went on a road trip to celebrate South Africa’s Heritage Day on 24th September. The aim was to visit some of South Africa’s most beautiful and well-preserved conservation areas.
A few years ago, I went on a quick drive up to Stellenbosch and we spotted a cheetah sanctuary. We are lucky in South Africa. We get so much amazing opportunities to see wildlife, that most people only get to see on the National Geographic channels. Whether the animals are in their natural habitat or in sanctuaries, we are still lucky to be able to see them in plenty.
- I have been informed that the Cheetah Outreach has moved to Somerset West, about 20 minutes from Stellenbosch. Please refer to the website (below) for more details)
